Moving Right Along!

I used the 12 leftover rail fence blocks to make two placemats for my husband and I!

DSCN3912

I really love these fabrics!!  They do all the work in these simple blocks!

DSCN3905

On the table runner I quilted it in curly swirls.  But on these placemats, I quilted it in leaves… my all time favorite motif to quilt!!

DSCN3908

The backing was from my tiny stash here in the apartment!  A brown print with homey words on it!!

DSCN3906

And, the house is moving right along!!

The siding is up!  The shutters are on!  It’s so fun to watch it progress!

IMG_1278

And they are painting inside and working on the kitchen.  No counters yet, though!!

What are you doing this weekend?  We’ll be at the house getting estimates on putting in a patio after we close!

Fenced In

I am trying to totally change our décor in the new house.  I’m going more modern and lighter.  Looking for a newer, more simple look!

DSCN3887

So when I saw these bright graphic fabrics a while back, I bought a half-yard of the orange, green and blue prints.

DSCN3886

See?  I really AM trying to like and use orange!!  LOL!!

field study

Then I saw this AWESOME floral print from the Field Study collection… which in my mind really looked great with the graphic prints, so I bought a yard of it for the backing!

DSCN3888

Soooo…  I wanted a simple design that would let the fabric do the work!  A rail fence block was perfect!!

DSCN3889

I aligned the three fabrics carefully on my mat and cut 2  1/2” strips  from selvage to selvage, getting seven strips from each fabric.

DSCN3890

I randomly sewed the strips together in sets of three, then sub-cut the strip sets into 6 1/2” blocks.  I got 6 blocks from each strip set, with a bit leftover… hmmmm…

DSCN3891

I laid the blocks out in 10 rows of three… using 30 of the 42 blocks for the table runner.  I will make 2 placemats from the remaining 12 blocks…and maybe some coasters from the leftovers??  I will be looking for a cool print for the placemat backs, as I used up all my Field Study for the runner backing.

DSCN3896

As the blocks fabrics and seams on the runner were all so straight, I quilted the runner in swirls, to soften the look and give it some texture!!

Soooo, waddaudink?

Dulcinea Done!!

Loved making this month’s Schnibble - Ducinea!!

DSCN3865

Such a fun little quilt!

DSCN3868

And as always, Carrie’s instructions were clear and easy to follow!!

DSCN3875

I used Moda’s “Happy Go Lucky” collection!!

DSCN3873

I free-motion quilted large leaf shapes on each square with a wavy center vein line.

DSCN3870

I added little green buttons to the pinwheel centers for fun!  A little pop!!

DSCN3871

And Yogi gave his seal of approval when I laid it on the ottoman to take photos of it!!

DSCN3881

The house is coming along quite nicely!!

IMG_1242

When we went to look at it around 6:00pm on Monday, the sun was really backlighting it so it’s kinda hard to see it!

IMG_1244

But the brick is done!  YAY!

What are you sewing on this week??

Happy Father’s Day!

Or in the case of my own dear Father, it should be called Daddy’s Day!!

Make Do!

I am working on this month’s Schnibble pattern, Dulcinea.  I don’t have all my rulers here in the apartment, so I had to run over to Joann’s, darn it, to get the one I needed to trim the blocks.

DSCN3856

I trimmed one block and the size and slipperiness of the little 3 1/2” square ruler, made it hard to hold the ruler still while trimming the block.

DSCN3858

So, I looked around here for something I could use to make the back of it less slippery.

DSCN3859

I found this package of seam guide strips my dear friend Linda just gave us at bee last weekend!

DSCN3860

So, I placed one strip on each edge of the ruler…trimming them to fit exactly.

DSCN3862

And it really worked perfectly- kept the ruler in place and prevented it from slipping at all!!

DSCN3861

Need truly is the Mother of invention!!

So, Yogi is dying to know what you are up to this week??

Two Finishes for June!

I did finish the Window Screen wall quilt.

DSCN3846

While I do not usually back my quilts in muslin,

DSCN3847

I did this time as it was included in the kit!

DSCN3848

However using it this time made it fun to look at the quilting from the back of the quilt!!

DSCN3850

This kit had the instructions and makings for two small wall quilts.

DSCN3834

The second one utilizes the same fabrics to make this Picket Fence quilt.

DSCN3843

I liked making this one, too!

DSCN3851

Using a glue stick instead of fusible was an interesting technique.

DSCN3852

When the pieces are small, I’d use it again.

DSCN3854

But I think using fusible is better for larger pieces.

DSCN3855

Last weekend was our local annual quilt show.

IMG_1165

I went, of course, and totally forgot to take photos to post!!

IMG_1166

But my dear friend, Linda, was so kind to take some for me to use!!

IMG_1167

It was fun to wander the aisles through the vendor sections.

IMG_1168

I love seeing the quilters of all different ages at the show.

IMG_1169

Some just beginning to quilt and some who have been doing it for years… some decades!!

IMG_1170

What did you do over the weekend??
