October Schnibble Done!

The Schnibble assigned for this month is a rather large one called “Harvey”!

IMG_3778

I wanted to use some fall fabric squares I already had in my stash that were leftover from a previous quilt, instead of charm packs.

IMG_3743

I also wanted a much smaller quilt than this Schnibble… one I could use for November decor either on a wall or on a table.

IMG_3753

Soooo, I made only the center pieced portion of this Schnibble which is made with half-square triangles.

I LOVE the colors of fall mixed with rich royal blues… like the colored leaves against an azure sky!!

So, I pulled out all my stash scraps in bright blue for the gray color Carrie used in this Schnibble.

I am very pleased at how it turned out!

The backing is an old Peanuts cartoon fabric showing Snoopy raking leaves, so I name this quilt “Rakish”.

And making only the center part resulted in the perfect size quilt for me!!  I quilted it with bright orange thread creating swirling oak leaves and an acorn in the very center.

I will be hanging it on my wall in  the family room/kitchen area during November.  I used the Waterloque app on my iphone to create this lovely pix-

Something Wicked

Did you used to do cross stitch way back when?  I did…  like back in  the 80’s, I think?!

IMG_3734

I simply adore Halloween and saw this little cross stitched verse on Etsy and had to have it.

Cross Stitch Pattern - Something Wicked

Which means I had to buy the design and cross stitch it!!

IMG_3515

It took a few weeks working on it at bee or at night during TV and football.

IMG_3732

And I used some of the 2” squares I had leftover from my Wicked Bits postage stamp quilt to finish it up as a pillow!

Spooky Rows of Fun!!

At least two years ago, I bought this quilt kit from connectingthreads.com.

IMG_3700

I meant to make it every fall to use in October, but never did until now!

IMG_3698

I have bought many quilt kits over the years from Connecting Threads.

IMG_3692

I have always been pleased with each one.  Quality fabrics, good directions and great prices!

IMG_3645

Their directions are wonderful, labeling each fabric in the kit, even giving cutting layouts.

IMG_3635

This quilt had many fabrics and pieces,

IMG_3637

so I used removable drafting tape strips to label each piece as I cut them out.

IMG_3649

This is my first row quilt, and it was fun to work through the construction one row at a time.

IMG_3642

I used fusible to attach the appliquéd spider, cat and candy corn pieces, then machine blanket-stitched around them.

IMG_3689

I especially liked the two rows of flying geese.

IMG_3650

I’ve never made them with different colored fabric on the side pieces like these.  It really makes them look totally different, don’t you think?

IMG_3687

The directions called for hand embroidery for the spider legs, web and facial expressions on the cats, but I used the satin stitch on my machine instead.

IMG_3696

I did change it up a bit…

I added border strips down each side, to make it a bit wider and I also used various buttons for the pupils in all the eyes, instead of more fabric appliqué.

IMG_3683

I did quilt it in rows, as well, changing the thread colors as needed.

IMG_3677

It’s draped over a chair in the library, as I write!!  I finally put out all my Halloween decor.

IMG_3678

I have pumpkins outside on my front steps, porch and back patio, but still have to replace my spindly geraniums with some bright mums!!

IMG_3682

Autumn truly is my most favorite season!!

IMG_3670

It’s to be quite chilly this weekend, so hope to light up the fire pit on the patio!!  YAY!!

Are you ready for fall in your home?  Doing something fun this glorious autumn weekend?
