October Doings…

We had a wonderful trunk show and lecture last week at our local quilt guild meeting by Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville.com fame!

DSCN3125

She is a fun speaker

DSCN3122

who shows amazing scrap quilts

DSCN3126

and shares many tips

DSCN3132

and tricks for saving

DSCN3133

and organizing quilting scraps.

DSCN3139

One of my favorite quotes from Bonnie is that “if the fabric scrap is still ugly, you’ve just not cut it small enough!”

I was lucky enough to get into her class the next day,

for her new Jamestown quilt from her newest book- String Fling.

StringFlingcovermed_220

I cut and prepared green red and a few pink scraps to make my version of her pretty Jamestown quilt (shown below) into a Christmas quilt.

So, what do you do when you discover that your planned project is not to your liking…whether from the colors you chose or the process itself?

DSCN3150

I have lots of time invested in selecting those fabrics and then cutting the squares… so, I put together the string blocks with the broken dishes blocks and made this cute little table mat.

DSCN3152

I also love the backing fabric, and will have lots of places I can use this in my house at Christmas.  I named it “Jamestown Christmas” as it is Bonnie’s design.

DSCN3153

And I still had LOTS of half square triangle blocks, so I put them together into another small table mat that I named “The Elf’s Blankie”,

also with a fun backing, and it will come out for Christmas decorating, too!!

I just have to share this photo that Bonnie took at class of me holding my pillow, made HERE, that she had posted on Facebook a while back!!
