Keeping Busy!

I made a fun sewing machine cover for my dear friend Suzanne as a birthday present!

She asked for bright fabrics, so bright fabrics she got!!

Both outside and inside!!  Really fun to make!!

Next, I pulled out a quilt kit I bought over a year ago from Connecting Threads.

IMG_2382

I love this simple little quilt made of super easy half-square triangle blocks.

IMG_2383

I think you could use just about any fabric and it would be such a dynamic quilt!!

IMG_2386

A great scrap buster, right?!!

IMG_2387

I found a fun multicolored fabric in my stash for the backing!  YAY!!

Then I used the super cool Waterloque app to turn this photo…

into this cool watercolor!!

Although I do love winter, I admit that I do miss the sun this winter and I am ready this year for spring!!

Monica pink rain1

As we just sold our home last month, this will be a really different spring for us here in the apartment.  Our previous home had a wonderful yard with many mature trees.

We had two large cherry trees and a dogwood tree in our front yard and several pear trees in the back and they all flowered so beautifully each spring…

I will miss them!!  So, we will have to plant some flowering trees in Haymarket when our new home there is finished and we move in!!

OK!!  You have been so patient with my spring ramblings… ready to know who the winner is???

Happy National Quilting Day!

What a pretty day we had today!  After a nice slow morning of two cups of coffee while watching some morning TV with the hubby, I did get to spend some time finishing up a pretty periwinkle linen blouse with Yogi in the sewing room!

The weather outside was so nice that I opened the window in my sewing room

and Yogi enjoyed sleeping next to it!!

All that fresh air and sunshine coming in the window…

DSCN0889

he does get such wonderful sleep in the sewing room!!

I finished three new linen blouses this week and also completed my new “Four Squared”

quilt made with a jelly roll of Amy Butler’s luscious Soul Blossoms fabric.

I found a unique chartreuse green solid to go with it to create my new design.

I am pleased how it turned out and Yogi likes it, too!  (And he sure needs a haircut, huh?)

This afternoon, I started on a new project for the Moda Bake Shop… stay tuned! :-)

Addicted to Color

In a previous post, I mentioned that I'd taken a class 2 years ago at The Artful Quilter quilt shop here in Centreville, Virginia. The class was with Kaffe Fassett and Liza Prior Lucy called "Square Clamshell" from his museum quilt book.

The range of colors we students brought to class were so unique to each other. I brought all blues with a bit of greens, purples and few hot pinks. I LOVE those colors. It was such fun to be with the two of them all day.

Kaffe was quite handsome with clear blue eyes and white hair. He was quite charming and a tad full of himself....who wouldn't be with a room full of women playing with gorgeous fabrics he designed!! Liza was insightful and down to earth. I liked them both!

While he was in town, he had a lecture and trunk show and we got to ogle and later touch the gorgeous quilts from his many books. He signed any of his books we brought to class and he cheerfully signed the embroidered label I made before class for the back of my quilt!

Well, the temperature was unseasonably warm today and almost all of the snow we got last week has now melted. The daffodils in my yard are starting to peek out of the dirt.

The robins are out digging worms in the still brown grass and I can already see tiny birds flying into my backyard birdhouse with twigs and pierces of dried grass for their nests.

Tomorrow night we "spring forward" into daylight savings time. Now it will be dark again going to work in the mornings, but will be light much later in the evenings. I am not ready to lose an hour of sleep, but I am ready for spring! Are you? God Bless! Polly
