Won’t You Join Us??

granny quilt along

Now that I am retired, I have the time and energy to join some fun quilt-alongs!!  And this one looks like allot of fun!!

(this is Lori’s block from her tutorial)

Lori at Bee In My Bonnet and Jodi at Pleasant Home are hosting The Great Granny Along.

Lori has a wonderful tutorial  HERE on her blog to show us how to construct the suddenly popular granny block we will be sewing up.

DSCN2576

The rules are simple!  Make a granny block, or two or however many you want, and post them on the Flickr group called The Great Granny Along Group! You can JOIN this Flickr group by clicking HERE!

Jodi and Lori will be posting about the group throughout the summer!  Come on… join us!!

Soooo, I had planned on using my Marmalade jelly roll to make Camille’s Spools Quilt.  But I changed my mind when I saw these granny blocks!!

DSCN2578

So, I subcut all the 2 1/2” strips in the jelly roll into 2 1/2” squares and sorted them into piles.

DSCN2572

Yogi was fascinated with all this cutting, of course!!

DSCN2573

I also cut a ton of 2 1/2” strips from my chosen ecru background fabric and subcut them into the 3 1/2” pieces and 5” pieces needed for each block.

Sooooo, I am ready to start sewing up my granny blocks!!  Hopefully tomorrow!!

July Schnibble DONE!!

This month we got to choose whichever Schnibble we wanted to make!  I LOVE that!!  Smile
DSCN2563
I had a stack of Schnibble patterns I had bought over time but not yet made, so I went through them and selected “McGuffey”.
DSCN2551
I used two charm packs of Lila Tueller’s  super fun, bright, and cute  “Spirit”collection.
DSCN2554
I chose them because the colors are perfect for a dear friend, so it will be a Christmas present!
DSCN2558
Yogi seemed to enjoy making McGuffey, too!!
DSCN2556
Well….at least between naps!!  LOL!!
DSCN2555
I used a variegated light green thread for free-motion quilting
DSCN2564
it with a meandering leaf design.

And the fabric I used for the backing was pulled from my stash.
DSCN2561
Also super cute!! With owls!!
DSCN2566
So, for the first time in months, I am not the last “Schnibbler” to finish their monthly project!!  YAY!!
DSCN2564
I am sooooooo loving this retirement thang!!  Woo hoo!!  Every day is a Saturday!!  Smile

Totin’ The Beach Around…

I finished the batik beach tote finally, yesterday afternoon!!

DSCN2541

I really had fun quilting it with cool beachy motifs!

Like some sea shells…

DSCN2543

and a crab with big claws…

DSCN2546

and a tall regal seahorse…

DSCN2548

and a graceful sea turtle…

DSCN2547

and a sharp toothed shark!!

DSCN2550

Soooo, guess what Yogi did while I was quilting the bag???

First he was quite antisocial…

DSCN2533

Then he seemed to show a bit of interest in the project…

DSCN2534

Then he changed position…

DSCN2535

And started snoring…

DSCN2536

LOUDLY!!  ZZZzzzzzzz!!

DSCN2537

What a life!!

Soooo, what are you sewing on these days??
