Before I had my knee surgery, I knew that I would not be able to get into my sewing room for a while, so I pieced a little wall quilt with some hand embroidered words, and pinned the sandwich, so I could hand quilt it in the Big Stitch style while recuperating downstairs.
It’s a very old pattern from Nancy Halvorsen – Art to Heart.
Her version on the pattern is made out of all soft earth tones… mostly homespuns.
Of course, I don’t own a single homespun fabric in my whole stash… not my style.
So, I made mine out of pretty bright batiks!!
I added some fun button embellishments.
I like the way it turned out.
It’s already hanging upstairs on the wall in the landing! What fun!
And hand quilting it was waaaaay out of my box, so to speak!!
You know my motto- if it can done by machine, it will be!!
And it gave me something to do with my hands while stuck downstairs in my recliner!!
And I can blame any uneven stitches on pain meds, right??? LOL!!
Yogi wants to know what you are sewing on these hot long days of summer!!
So cute! Hope you are feeling better.
ReplyDeleteLove it, glad you are doing so well!!
ReplyDeleteYour color palette is much more to my taste. It's really pretty and you did a great job with it. Glad to hear your knee is doing well. You'll be back in your sewing room before you know it.
ReplyDeleteIt's a cute little quilt I like it:-) I'll making my Schnibbles for this month this weekend it'll be Joanna's Mini Juniper. But tomorrow will be a friend's bridal shower don't think I'll have much sewing time then. Hope you recover enough soon to use your sewing machine again!
ReplyDeleteOh I love it Polly. Wonky is just great !!
ReplyDeleteHope your knee is healing well...
Sorry Yogi no long hot summer days here. We are holidaying in our van and it's pouring right now. Have been doing a bit sewing while away.
That is so pretty! I love getting to old patterns, kinda reminds you of the good old days!
ReplyDeleteThat's so cute! I like your colors, there's no homespun in this house either. Aren't uneven stitches part of the homemade by hand experience? :)
ReplyDeleteThis is cute and any uneven stitches creates a comforting, cozy look, in my opinion, but then, I like hand quilting! lol
ReplyDeleteI'm not sewing much currently. I've been busy catching up with other details of life after a busy season of working on my Row by Row quilt this summer and...I won! =)

My daughter would like the block with the cardinal. She collects them.
ReplyDeleteLove the bright batiks you used and I think it turned out great! Hope you're doing well and will soon be back up in your sewing room. It's not so hot here and we've been spending a lot of time outside, so not much going on in the sewing room here.
ReplyDeleteIs it from one of her books? Think I have nearly every one she put out. Yours is so adorable and I'm wondering if I overlooked her because of fabs used. I LOVE yours!! Glad you're feeling better and no more back to school!
