My First King Quilt!

When my youngest son finished college and moved into his own apartment a few months ago, we got rid of his old childish furniture and put a king size bed in there and made it into a guest room… empty nest, you know!

So, I decided it was time to try my hand at making a realllly big quilt to put on it!

I went through my stash and collected up all the fun bright fat quarters in peach and pink and green and purple and a bit of brown and yellow!

I used the original Turning Twenty pattern for the design, but 20 fat quarters did not make a big enough quilt, so I used 36 fat quarters, instead!

The block layout was six rows across and six rows down.  It is such a fun scrappy quilt!!  I named it Peach Melba!  Waddaudink??

The throw pillows and bed warmer on it below, are actually turned with the back sides up, because I like it better that way!!

The pillows and bed warmer were made with the leftover blocks from my Four Squared quilt!

Currently I am working on a second king size quilt for my own bed also using fat quarters but my own design!  The colors are quite the opposite of this hot quilt!!  I’m using cool blues, purples and greens!  Stay tuned!!

What have you been working on lately???  Enjoying spring??

  5. Very nice, love the color mix. Will your son have to sleep under the pink quilt when he comes home to visit? I have made two Turning Twenty but with 25 fat quarters. Makes a nice size queen.

  6. Oh it's very nice! I really like it!! I finished my first king last year. Simple ten inch blocks made of vintage sheets. I absolutely love it! I can't wait to see what you come up with next ;0)

  8. Our youngest moved out recently too, leaving our nest empty. It is so fun to fill those rooms. We made his fitness room! I told him if he ever moves back, he has to sleep on the treadmill because that thing won't EVER be moving again. It was quite a chore getting it in there. Love the quilt!! Love the bed warmers. Never heard of those before??? Happy Spring...yes I adore it!

  10. Love your new look guest room with the gorgeous quilt . Turning Twenty is a great pattern to use. Pech Melba is a good name.
Dame Nellie Melba was a famous Australian soprano singer..

  11. I love how it, the colors are so fun! I have made a small quilt using that design but have not been brave enough to tackle a king size.
