A Finish and a Question…

Ok, first, I DID finish the quilt I was quickly quilting last week for bee on Saturday.

I sewed the binding down at bee and even got the label on it, too….  do love sewing down those bindings…

which is really weird and surprising to me ‘cause if it can be done by machine, that is sooo me!!

OK, soooo, I’ve got a question for you all!!

Here are some yummy 16 patch blocks from Amy Butler’s gorgeous Soul Blossoms collection… D E L I C I O U S N E S S!

I’m using them in a new jelly roll quilt design I’m working on.

I bought this awesome large polka dot to use for the background…and I don’t like it now that the blocks are made… it’s too busy…sigh…  :-(

Sooooo, my question is what color solid fabric would YOU use if you were picking one??

DSCN0846

I don’t think I want white or beige…  but there are soooo many choices….

What would you pick???  HELP!!!!

  1. If this were mine, I would take one of the dark colors (I can't really tell by the picture but it looks deep burgandy or brown) and use it to frame the blocks and maybe use the polkadot as sashing/binding.

  2. I do believe I would go for the blue gray color I think I am seeing or possibly one of the greens. You do know you are going to get as many different answers as there are quilters out there? Ha!

  3. I'm thinking a delicious chocolate brown maybe.

  4. I did some rows of 2x2" squares with this fabric and paired it with a very light blue grey which turned out nice. I also liked it against a darker grey.

  5. Hi Polly! Your quilt did turn out very nicely! And I like the fabrics you've chosen for the new jelly roll quilt. I think I would use either that blue tone, or more likely, I would use a green for the backing. Whatever you choose I know it's going to look awesome!

    XOXO,

  6. Hi Polly, I think I would like to see it on the peach or apricot shade , that is in a lot of her fabrics. It is hard to tell the exact colors but I think that's what I would like. Take a block with you to store and try it on different colors.

  8. AH!! See we all have our favorites and my would be some shade of blue.

Oh and why can you not sew your binding by machine Polly?? I do. Only hand sew special quilts.

  9. I think I would use black or a dark fabric which would make those beautiful fabrics pop..

  10. First I thought green-bright or dark, then I saw the dark--is it brown or deep red? I think whatever color you choose is going to be perfect.

  11. The light bluey/aqua I can see in the fabrics is the first colour that springs to mind. The colours are lovely & bright & fresh & need something to compliment that. I wouldn't go with a solid, they can fade, but maybe a marble? Best trick is to take a bundle of squares to the fabric shop & audition the blocks. One is sure to jump out & grab you.

  13. For me...a dark brown or burgandy...whatever is the dark color I am seeing. I also like the greens in the fabric. I always have to audition it first and let it talk to me a bit.

  14. I love a nice gray...like charcoal. It will make those lovely colors pop!

  15. I've had two thoughts. Light salmon or apricot. The other thought is to find a light green to make the green in the blocks pop. Love the 16 pathces. I do agree with you that the polka dot fabric is too busy. Good luck:)

  16. Outstanding fabrics - I must get shopping soon to find some for myself!

At first, I was leaning towards yellow for your background on the quilt, but the more I think about it, I am thinking a medium gray or perhaps darker gray tone-on-tone, you know something subtle that will not detract from those awesome prints.

  17. I would suggest using a solid black, but using narrow sashes....just enough to make the colors jump off the quilt!

  18. Something soothing to give the eye a rest from all the wonderful wild going on in the blocks. Maybe a soft green or blue. Or a yellow might make the blocks just pop.

  19. Ok this is far off from everyone else but is that orange I see in there? Love orange! blessings, marlene

  20. Underneath the picture of what I think is a PINK fabric that you have your blocks on - I REALLY like the Blue/Gray...if that's even what you'd call the color. In the picture below that "PINKIE" fabric, it'd be the darker fabric in Row 3, Column 2.

But what do I know? If you ask hubby, not much..LOL

  21. I think if it were me I would take a small white border and put it around all the blocks. Like amybe a 3/4 to 1 inch border. Then I would still use the purple spot fabric. Good luck. I love all of those colors!

  22. knoa ash, it will make all those colors really pop!

  23. Hi Polly- I would use a chocolate brown or black to really set those beautiful blocks off!
Missed you at CQU last night.

  24. Polly I would pull some colors from the squares and sit with them. See what speaks to you. I see a yellow, gray blue or green
