Resolution… no… a New Goal!!

OK, I’ve totally given up on making New Years Resolutions these days.  They just make you feel bad come February when you’ve already stopped working on them, right?

Soooo, I thought I’d try to make a goal I could actually reach instead!!  I’m sick and tired of making the same dang meals every week!!  So, my goal is to make one new recipe every week!!  That’s not unrealistic, right?

Tonight I made a dish I’ve always heard about but never eaten or made- Osso Buco!!  Woo hoo!! I read a zillion recipes online for it and sorta did my own thing!  And it was DELICIOUS!! (I have to apologize for my terrible photos…really fuzzy!!)  Here ya go!!

                          Osso Buco

2 lbs. veal shank (about 4)

1 c. chopped onion

3/4 c. chopped celery

1/2 c. petite carrots

3 large crushed garlic cloves

1/2 stick butter

1/4 c. chopped bacon or pancetta

3/4 c. white wine

1 can tomato sauce

1/2 c. flour

1/4 c. chopped fresh parsley

2 Bay leaves, salt, pepper

(Pre-heat oven to 375!)

Using an enameled coated cast iron covered pot on the stovetop, brown the veal shanks in the butter, after dredging them in flour. Salt and pepper them as desired.

Remove the meat to a dish, add the onion, celery, garlic, bacon and spices to the pan drippings and saute for 10 minutes, then add the wine.  Add the meat back to the pot. Pour the tomato sauce over the meat.  Add the carrots and Bay leaves.  Put the top on the pot, and place in the pre-heated oven for 1 1/2 hours.

Serve with linguine, a green salad and Merlot!

Anddddd, guess who was waiting in the corner for something to drop on the floor…

  7. Mmm, yummo that smells soo good, your dog and I are both salivating! You have lit a little fuse in my head and I will be looking for shanks next visit to the shops. I love that decision and second it for the sake of my dear husband who has been eating the same old meals far too long. I'll be keeping an eye out for any other good food ideas you want to share, thanks Polly! Bon appetite:)
