March Schnibble Done!

This month’s Schnibble project is a Little Bites sampler quilt called (duh) “Sample”.  Historically, I’ve never really liked sampler quilts…

But I did like the sampler quilt version with the taupe polka-dotted background on the cover of the pattern.

And I must be honest and admit that I thoroughly enjoyed making this quilt…

and I do love how it turned out!!  Love the backing, too!

It was fun to make each block differently.  You don’t get bored, for sure!!

Lots of playing with fabric placements!!  Such fun!!

I made mine with Pat Sloan’s Bobbins and Bits collection, which I also love!!

So, Yogi is wondering where the heck spring went?  It was 33 this morning again!!

January “Schnibble” Done!

This month’s project was a free online pattern/tutorial found HERE, by Julia at My Rainboots Are Red blog. 

I really love the design!

The optical illusion of curved pieces is created by the two block alternating placement.

I used a low intensity print fabric for the background…love the writing!

I quilted it simply- outlining only the light background pieces which emphasized the circular design.

I named it “Roundish”.

Now, I’m on to finishing up a BOM quilt I started back in 2009 called “Calendar Kids” by American Jane which uses her Snippets collection.

Last “Schnibble” for 2014

Our Schnibble group assignment for December wasn’t actually one of Carrie’s Schnibble patterns at all!!

It was a cute little mini quilt design from Sherri McConnell,  one of our lovely Schnibble group leaders, called “Shine”!

I don’t know about you, but by the time Christmas finally comes, I am so tired of red and green stuff all around, that I yearn for some blues!!

So, I made my little quilt from some fabric I bought years ago for a purse- with blues, aqua’s and lime greens!

The background print has to be at least 10 years old!!  But I still love it!!

The backing was a large flower print!!  Such a lovely little quilt!!  Quite fun to make!!

My husband and I both came down with the flu two days before Christmas… it’s been a long time to feel better and finally get a bit of energy back between coughing!!  But I finally got the Christmas decor packed away… just have the tree to do today!!!  How about you?

November “Schnibble” Done!

I Really love the pattern chosen for this month’s “Schnibble”.

It’s not really a Schnibble by dear Carrie, but is actually a mini-quilt design from Fig Tree that uses one charm pack and a bit of yardage!

I used a charm pack of Sweet Tweet by Benartex.  I also mixed up the leaves a bit and made one stem going in one direction and the other in the opposite direction, as I plan to use it as a table runner.

The pattern called for a light fabric for the outer border but I chose to use some leftover charm pack pieces for my border! 

I also quilted some associated words in the narrow red inner border… dirt, seeds, water, sprouts, rain, fresh air, insects, sunshine, etc…

I love the cute cheater mini-hexie print I used for the backing and will probably use it reversed sometimes,

so I just signed a solid blue place near the middle on the back that would be covered with a centerpiece, rather than use a label in a corner.

I’m putting it away for now and will use it this spring!!

October Schnibble Done!

The Schnibble assigned for this month is a rather large one called “Harvey”!

I wanted to use some fall fabric squares I already had in my stash that were leftover from a previous quilt, instead of charm packs.

I also wanted a much smaller quilt than this Schnibble… one I could use for November decor either on a wall or on a table.

Soooo, I made only the center pieced portion of this Schnibble which is made with half-square triangles.

I LOVE the colors of fall mixed with rich royal blues… like the colored leaves against an azure sky!!

So, I pulled out all my stash scraps in bright blue for the gray color Carrie used in this Schnibble.

I am very pleased at how it turned out!

The backing is an old Peanuts cartoon fabric showing Snoopy raking leaves, so I name this quilt “Rakish”.

And making only the center part resulted in the perfect size quilt for me!!  I quilted it with bright orange thread creating swirling oak leaves and an acorn in the very center.

I will be hanging it on my wall in  the family room/kitchen area during November.  I used the Waterloque app on my iphone to create this lovely pix-

Not One Whit!

That’s what I named this month’s “Schnibble” quilt.

It is one of Carrie’s “Little Bite” patterns which is made with the smaller 2 1/2” mini charms.

So, even though it is made of 128 flying geese units, it finishes up at a whopping 22’'” square.

I do like the design allot and as usual, Carrie’s directions are spot-on and easy to follow.

But, it just seems like such allot of work for such a tiny project.

I really do like the larger sized quilts from the regular Schnibbles patterns better.

My quilt was made with the Moda Avalon collection from Fig Tree Quilts, but the backing is from their newer collection “Honeysweet”.
