Here Comes Summer!

Did you see the cute summery quilt on the front of the newest Fons and Porter "Love of Quilting" magazine?

I loved it as soon as I saw it!!  The other gals in my bee all commented on liking it and wanting to make it, too.

The fabrics used in the magazine are very traditional and repro types, which is sooooo not anywhere in my stash!  So I made mine out of more modern fabrics.

I also added some 1/2" white rickrack inside each watermelon block.  I sewed it over the seam between the red and green fabrics.

I think it looks like the white part of the
 watermelon rind, don't you?

I named it "A Slice of Summer"... pun intended!  I found a picnic themed Debbie Mumm fabric for the backing and I used a really pretty summery label with sailboats on the back!  Now I can't wait to put away all my spring decor and get out all my summer stuff!

I'm about half done with a bargello flag quilt wall hanging to display above the mantle for summer!  Hope to finish it tomorrow...but maybe not as I've got quilt guild tomorrow night, too!  Sigh!
Do you decorate for summer?
